The Department of Employability is seeking to recruit an Information and Employment Adviser - Volunteering to be the first point of contact for students and graduates visiting or using the Careers and Employability Service to explore volunteering opportunities.
The post holder will work as part of the Volunteering Team and will provide information, advice and support to students and graduates, who wish to use volunteering to develop their skill sets and experience. Liaising and meeting with clients in the third sector as well as academic staff is also a key part of the role.
Successful applicants will have excellent customer service, communication, negotiation and networking skills and a genuine interest in helping students and graduates as they face the challenges and demands of preparing for the labour market.

Marie Curie provides care and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. They have been carrying out this vital work for over 65 years – last year alone they cared for over 40,000 people across the UK. Gig Buddies Portsmouth
A gig buddy is a volunteer that is matched with a person with a learning disability to go to gigs, socials and share hobbies together. Whether you are in to live music, theatre, outdoor activities or crafts, use your love of socialising and fun to help someone else in your community get out and enjoy themselves a couple of times a month.”
As a Gig Buddy volunteer you will be DBS checked and required to attend a three hour training session one evening, once trained you will be matched with an adult with a learning disability and it will be your responsibility to keep in touch with them and that you meet with your Buddy at least once a month. Gig Buddies Portsmouth organise monthly group socials that will put you in touch with other volunteers and their buddies so that you can exchange ideas.

Activate Mentoring is a one year programme of 1-1 mentoring designed to improve students’ motivation, attendance and confidence and to raise aspirations. Mentoring sessions are usually an hour per week in school time but can be tailored to suit the needs of the school.

Dimensions UK are looking for Volunteer Buddies all over Portsmouth to help the people they support to get out and about, learn new skills and to have fun! Dimensions provides support for around 3,500 people with learning disabilities and autism across the UK, helping them to live more independently and access their local communities.
Becoming a volunteer buddy is the perfect opportunity to make a difference by doing something you enjoy. No specific experience is required, however experience with adults with disabilities would be desirable.
S.A.D. Portsmouth need volunteers to support the group at their weekly meetings. The role will involve:
- Helping to support people with mild to moderate stress, anxiety or depression.
- To take part and interact in session activities and support participants.
- General support activities (meet and greet, room setup, refreshments, etc.)
- Good listening skills.
- Basic understanding of mental health.
Support volunteers won't be required to attend every session, but would be appreciated if they could attend once a month.
They also require people to help with leaflet drops or anyone that would be willing to put some fliers in the workplace.
