Gunwharf Quays has launched a new funding project; Gunwharf Quays Supporting Others’ Success, with the aim of supporting Portsmouth’s long term unemployed with jobs and opportunities. It has seen an initial £20,000 of funding awarded to four local organisations.

Applications of up to £4,000 can be requested each year from community partners, which will then be reviewed by a Committee to ensure funding is allocated as effectively as possible.

Gunwharf 2018 webColin Wilding, General Manager at Gunwharf Quays, said “We have a vision to create more opportunities for our local community, be it through training, qualifications, apprenticeship schemes or work experience opportunities. Gunwharf Quays Supporting Others’ Success is an exciting new initiative that gives local organisations the opportunity to apply for funding to be used to specifically support learning and career development.
There are people who could do great work given the chance, many of whom don’t think a career in property is an option. We’re connecting these dots: bringing more people into our industry and building a strong workforce for the future.”

Following a number of initial submissions, grants totalling £20,000 were awarded to Lily and Lime, Motiv8 South, Volition Portsmouth and the Society of St James.

A charity that supports the homeless population in Portsmouth, Society of St James helps provide housing and supports work opportunities. Commenting on the grant Jane Smith, Operations Director at the Society of St James said “Homelessness is an unfortunate event that could happen to any of us. This grant will certainly go a long way in creating an exciting network of education and employment opportunities for the vulnerable people we work with in Portsmouth, in the hope that they will get back on their feet and live a life that they rightfully deserve.”

The launch of Gunwharf Quays Supporting Others’ Success follows the recent work the centre has been doing as part of its Made in Portsmouth programme, encouraging ambitious students to consider careers within the tourism industry.

Gunwharf Quays Supporting Others’ Success will be open for submissions from local organisations wishing to apply. For more information, including application forms, visit
