Two young entrepreneurs who credit their success to an apprenticeship scheme have now recruited a trainee of their own. Carl Hewitt and Reece Matthews, Founders and Directors of Digital Dinos, a digital marketing agency based at Lakeside, Portsmouth, were students at Portsmouth College from 2015-17. Wanting to support apprentices to develop their skills, the two marketeers contacted Portsmouth College to see how they could help.
The result is that as of this week, Jess, 20 joins the business as a new trainee account manager.
While Jess will work full time at Digital Dinos headquarters, she will study one day a month for a Level 3 Digital Marketing Apprenticeship at Portsmouth College. The course teaches students the basics of marketing and the techniques needed to operate in the digital workplace.
Having also completed their apprenticeship at Portsmouth College, Carl and Reece went their separate ways into a full-time job or University. It was in 2016 that they pooled their expertise to launch their company leading to a host of grateful clients.
Digital Dinos are one of the most exciting, young and dynamic digital marketing agencies on the south, specialising in social media retargeting. By helping companies identify useful trends, insights, businesses of all sizes can fulfil their business objectives, whether this is increasing market share or increasing lead generation.
Carl Hewitt says: ‘It's great to welcome Jess onboard this week. She impressed us with her knowledge and enthusiasm, both crucial for any successful career. Being apprentices ourselves, we know how invaluable these opportunities are for young people to get their first foot on the corporate ladder.
Digital marketing is an evolving market and there has never been a better time to join such an exciting industry. We look forward to the coming year and what it holds for the team’ added Reece Matthews.
Figures from the Department for Education reveal that over 90% of apprentices currently go into work or further training. The number of apprentices in the UK now stands at a record level: with 491,300 apprenticeships being started in the 2016 to 2017 academic year.
Portsmouth College Principal, Steve Frampton MBE, had this to say about the young company “A great innovative company, full of originality, passion, and with clear values, who deliver brilliant affordable solutions and products that really add value to an organisation. They are very talented, hardworking and fun. I cannot recommend them highly enough.”
