Healthier options are the order of the day this year as Portsmouth City Council gears up to launch it's Summer Food and Fun campaign in partnership with Warburtons, Food Portsmouth, Portsmouth FoodCycle and Food Bank, and Fareshare Southern Central.
The project will be providing children and young people a delicious healthy option meal throughout the holidays, and encouraging them to try new things.
Summer Food and Fun will be delivered across the authority's six Adventure Playground sites and four Youth Clubs across Portsmouth and the surrounding area.
The scheme has been spearheaded by the authority's Housing, Neighbourhoods and Building Services portfolio, who, with their partners, want to ensure children and young people are out enjoying themselves, are engaging with new experiences, and eating a well-balanced meal.
The UK's largest bakery brand Warburtons, has joined forces with the Portsmouth agencies to help support the scheme, providing an array of delicious bakery products for the children to enjoy.
To encourage as many people in the area to benefit as possible, young people have also been invited to join the many clubs and groups on offer at the sites, in recognition that these offer a safe space for families to come together.
Portsmouth City Council's Cabinet Member for Housing, Cllr Darren Sanders, said: "Summer Food Fun is a brilliant way to ensure that the children in the city receive a healthy balanced meal and get to try new things. We have such engaging facilities across the city for the children to enjoy throughout the summer, and adding to that a delicious healthy meal is just good news for everyone. I want to say a massive thank you to Warburtons and our partners for supporting this scheme."
Brett Warburton, Executive Director at Warburtons said: "It is our goal at Warburtons to support our local community, and schemes like this ensure that people from all backgrounds have access to healthy and nutritional meals. It is our absolute pleasure to support Portsmouth Council, Food Portsmouth and Fareshare Southern Central this summer. We hope all the children have a wonderful summer."
