Shoppers can snap up special deals from independent businesses on 1 December – the annual Small Business Saturday celebration.
And that's not all. They can also get free parking at selected council car parks.
Small Business Saturday is all about using independent businesses in your area and helping the local economy thrive. It's also an opportunity for businesses to put on special events or offers.
On Albert Road in Southsea, more than 20 traders are marking the day by offering special deals – ranging from a free brownie with a takeaway coffee to 10 per cent off a haircut.
There will special events to celebrate the day in Castle Road and Palmerston Road.
Portsmouth City Council is backing the event by listing special deals on Facebook. To see them, residents can go to Small Business Saturday event on the council's Facebook page.
It's also offering free parking all day at the following sites:
- Wootton Street car park, Cosham
- London Road car park, Cosham
- Stubbington Avenue car park, North End
- Ashby Place car park, Southsea
- Clarence Street car park in the city centre
Cllr Ben Dowling, the council's Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Economic Development, said: "Small businesses are the lifeblood of our neighbourhoods. They add character and colour to local shopping areas and we need to encourage them as much as possible. That's why we're offering free use of these car parks, and helping to promote what's happening on the day. It's great to see traders around the city joining in."
Businesses can also go to smallbusinesssaturdayuk.com for a free promotional pack and ideas.
