STEM businesses are being given an amazing opportunity to attend EBP South’s Primary Schools’ STEM Fair in partnership with Portsmouth Water. There are only a few spaces left.
The event has been running in a similar form for 30 years and has evolved to become a two-day event with businesses running 25-minute activities with small groups of primary students aged 9 and 10 years old.
Jacquie Jones said ‘It’s really important that businesses and organisations attend these events as research from Education and Employers shows that children start to rule out career options from an early age and girls and boys hold stereotypical views about male and female careers by age 7. Exposure to people from different roles and backgrounds is a perfect way to challenge stereotypes and unspoken assumptions.’
It is free for businesses to attend with many returning annually as it is an inspiring event that attendees enjoy. The event is also an important opportunity for businesses to be proactive in overcoming future STEM skills gaps and developing a pipeline of talent.
The pupils attending are enthusiastic and eager to take part in the challenges and activities created by businesses and learn about STEM.
Previous attendee said; ‘We attended because we know it’s a great way of getting our company known; it encourages young people and girls into engineering, educates teachers about engineering subjects and our company, and we can give back as a company to the future workforce.’
The event takes place on Tuesday 12th March 2019 and Wednesday 13th March 2019 9am – 3pm both days at CEMAST. Businesses can attend one day or both days. It’s free to attend for businesses to attend they just need to fill out a booking form available at www.ebpsouth.co.uk/Event/primaryschoolsstemfair19.
