Bike4Bart is a charity event being run by the Andrew Simpson Foundation and the Andrew Simpson Watersports Centre on the 27th April 2019.
The event is in memory of Andrew Simpson, the former Olympic sailor who sadly passed away in 2013. Bike4Bart helps to raise awareness of the amazing work that is currently carried out by the team at the Andrew Simpson Foundation. Funds raised helps them to transform the lives of young people through sailing, inspired by Olympic Gold and Silver medalist Andrew ‘Bart’ Simpson MBE who passionately believed that everyone should have the chance to try sailing and enjoy the many benefits that it brings. The event is a 3 options length route bike ride that is taking place through the Meon Valley starting and ending at the ASWC Portsmouth Centre.
Running alongside are free water sports sessions and ‘The Village Festival’ on the sports field next to the centre. This will be filled with themed activity stands being run by Rollapaluza, Frog Bikes and Solent Cycles. The field will be full of activity stalls, food and drink stalls and there will be a stage with live music playing all day until 8pm.
Sir Ben Ainslie CBE, Iain Percy OBE and Grant Simmer, CEO of the America’s Cup Team for Britain and the entire of Team INEOS have confirmed that they’ll be taking part in the bike ride. Sir Ben Ainslie will also be presenting the Young Sports Person of the Year award on the events stage in the late afternoon and will be doing talks.
