To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Portsmouth Festivities, the Festivities are showcasing a world premiere event 20 Love on June 23rd and they are inviting members of the public to submit their own love poems to be featured in this event.
20 Love is in partnership with Portsmouth Poetry and is supported by Arts Council England. This event will feature poetry, music and film and features the work of Greg Mosse, Jay Hulme, Connor Macleod, Ali Gadema, Egg and Spoon Films, The Urban Vocal Group, Emily Priest and Ricky Tart. Artists will be giving their modern day versions of the work 20 Love Poems and a Song of Despair by Pablo Neruda.
Director of Portsmouth Festivities Erica Smith said “We are elated that the Neruda foundation have given us full permission to interpret his work. The audience can expect an exciting debut of new poetry, music and film. It’s going to be a wonderful evening.”
Portsmouth Festivities wants to give the public a chance to have a poem shown at their 20 Love event, so get yours back soon! Postcards are available from all local bookshops and libraries and the deadline to return a poem is the 31st May 2019.
The event will be held on the 23rd June at 8pm on Governor’s Green, Portsmouth. Event opens at 7.30pm with full licensed refreshments. This event is free but tickets are required. They can be redeemed online.
