The second Portsmouth Comic Con is a stunning success

Portsmouth Comic Con – International Festival of Comics returned to Portsmouth Guildhall this past Bank Holiday weekend, 4th – 5th May, and proved to be another huge success!

Over 6,500 people flocked to the event, which in its second year was bigger and better than before, with a massive superstructure built in Guildhall Square to almost double the footprint and content on offer.

Featuring the best of comic, film, TV and pop culture entertainment, Portsmouth Comic Con is the largest of its kind in the South, welcoming some of the greatest artists and writers in the comic and film industry alongside stars of the screen with an exceptional range of panels, exhibitions, displays and the magical world of cosplay. 

Paying homage to Marvel legend; Stan Lee and Star Wars actor; Peter Mayhew, visitors celebrated the 80th anniversary of Batman and Star Wars Day with interactive fun in the form of the VR, motion capture, robots, retro and board gaming, a Steampunk Deck and a wide range of merch and collectables were available to purchase.

A hit event with the Portsmouth community, wider region and staying visitors from afar, plans are already underway for 2020 with the dates fixed as Saturday 2nd & Sunday 3rd May.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure & Sport of Portsmouth City Council, Councillor Steve Pitt praised The Guildhall Trust on the success of this year’s event saying, “Portsmouth Comic Con can only be described as a stunning success. Thank you for showcasing our city in such a fantastic way”.
