Portsmouth street food business and social enterprise Need Street Food has been selected from 3,000 applicants to be part of the line-up at the southern heat of the 2019 British Street Food Awards — and they’re seeking the support of their city to reach the finals.
Taking place this bank holiday weekend in Gunwharf Quays, the event will see visitors voting for their favourite dishes from Saturday 25th to Monday 27th May. The three-day food festival will also feature a fully-stocked bar and music from Wave 105.
Need Street Food will be cooking their signature French Dip Rolls during the long weekend — sous-vide brisket rolls served with gravy dips. Every one sold will fund shipments of life-saving food to children and mothers in need overseas.
“Being selected to take part in the British Street Food Awards is truly a dream come true,” Need Street Food founder Pete Hunt said. “We can’t thank our loyal customers enough for helping us get here. We hope that, with their help, we can make it through to the finals and put Portsmouth on the street food map.
Plus, bringing our charity mission to the regional finals and being in with a chance to share it with everyone the national finals in London is a tremendous honour.”
Traders at the event will have small boxes on their stalls, where visitors will be invited to place the voting tickets they’re given when they arrive at the British Street Food Awards.
“Trading in Portsmouth at the outset of summer is always awesome,” Pete added. “We see so many familiar faces, and hundreds of families and groups of friends sharing food with one another, and really, that’s what street food is all about.”
The 2019 British Street Food Awards supported by Hellmann’s runs from 11:00am ’til 6:00pm daily between Saturday 25th May and Monday 27th May. Entry is free.
