Portsmouth City Council has demonstrated its commitment to addressing climate change by appointing a new officer dedicated to the issue.

Tristan Thorn is the city's new climate change officer and will take the lead on coordinating the council's efforts to improve in this area.

The role will also see him work with other organisations across the city to encourage environmental improvements and support their efforts where possible.

Tristan said: "I'm looking forward to making a positive difference to Portsmouth. It's obviously going to take more than one person to make a difference, everyone has to play their part, but this role can help ensure we maximise the benefits of those individual efforts."

Cllr Dave Ashmore, the council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Climate Change, said: "It is great news we have Tristan on board as our new climate change officer. This is a crucially important role in making sure we have a coordinated, strategic approach to tackling the climate emergency and I'm confident he'll deliver positive results. Creating this post demonstrates our commitment to climate change and environmental issues and we'll continue to make improvements wherever we can."
