Proving that Portsmouth is a versatile port alongside the familiar ferry, cruise and commercial shipping movements that usually take place, this summer will now feature the Emirates America's World Cup teams and their state-of-the-art foiling monohulls.
Portsmouth International Port is the official supporter and provider for the Emirates America’s Cup World Series Portsmouth technical area, which will be based within their global cargo terminal Portico.
The America's Cup is the world's oldest sporting trophy, originating in 1851, with this year marking the 36th event.
Set up for the three international America’s Cup teams, Emirates Team New Zealand (NZL), Prada Luna Rossa (ITA) and American Magic (USA) to house their radical AC75 race boats at temporary team bases at the port will begin from 18 May, in preparation for this summer’s racing event from 4 – 7 June.

These 75 foot foiling monohulls – known as AC75 – will be stored and maintained within tents and craned in and out for training and racing sessions each day. The radical design includes foils, a feature which allows a sailing technique that gives the impression of vessels taking flight off the water.
Mike Sellers, Portsmouth International Port’s director said: “We’re honoured to be the official provider for the Emirates America’s Cup World Series Technical Area. As a thriving port we’re glad to play a role in one of the most prestigious global sailing events. These will certainly be some of the more unusual craft we’ve had berthed alongside our quays and will be a remarkable operation to witness.
We’re looking forward to supporting this world-class event and are sure this will be a memorable experience for everyone involved. While we’re proud to be home to INEOS TEAM UK, we’ll also make sure our visiting guests receive first class treatment.”
Leslie Ryan, Event Director, Emirates ACWS, on partnering with Portico and the Port: “We are delighted to partner with Portico and Portsmouth International Port, who will host the Technical Area for the Emirates Americas Cup World Series Portsmouth.
The race boats are much bigger and more extreme than in the previous ACWS events we’ve had here in Portsmouth. The port has great infrastructure in place and will provide the perfect base for the overseas AC teams in the build-up to and during the event.”

Operations across the port will continue as usual, with the added exception that lucky passengers and crew will have the opportunity to witness impressive sights of the teams AC75s in action.
Portsmouth is the host city for the UK element of the America's Cup World Series. The Emirates ACWS race village will be focused around Southsea Castle, with big screens, live race commentary, stage shows and much more across the four days. Racing will take place off Southsea seafront with a two hour race window each day. There’s a host of ticket options on offer from Race Village Fan Zone access to Grand Stand seating and hospitality.
