The team at AboutMyArea Portsmouth, the interactive news and information website, recently launched a new social media brand Island City Living as part of their ambitious plan for growth.
Co-owner Peter Hopkinson (former Head of The Portsmouth Grammar Junior School) explains: “We wanted more people to have free access to our local news and information and an expansion of our social media platforms is the first step in helping us achieve that aim. There are so many local businesses and individuals using these platforms in creative and interactive ways, and we’re excited to be part of this; ‘Connecting Portsmouth’ has become our mantra. We have almost 30,000 followers across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn and have already created a special Island City Living community.
The distinctive name and branding of Island City Living evolved out of a desire to celebrate the uniqueness of Portsmouth. There are so many things that make our city different and the fact that it’s the UK’s only Island City makes it stand out even further.”
To coincide with the launch of Island City Living there are also new developments on the AboutMyArea website, which currently attracts over 15,000 visitors a week. There are two new features sections (Tales from the City and Sunday Supplement), a space for local podcasters and dedicated sections for Shaping Portsmouth and Portsmouth City Council.
The first phase of AboutMyArea Portsmouth’s plan for growth is under way and the second phase is already in development, in the form of an Island City Living App.
“The app will become a ‘one stop shop’ for all things Portsmouth, for those who visit, work, and live in the City. Users will be able to download it for free and access all the free news and information they currently do from the website. It will also connect people with our local businesses. We are aiming to launch the app in the New Year.”
