Start Up & Thrive

Led By: David Patterson

Vision & Mission

Creating a thriving and competitive business start-up environment by making Portsmouth a great place to start, grow and locate a business in the UK. To be the best place to get localised, create Portsmouth based information and resources to help businesses to start up and thrive.

The primary function of the StartUp and Thrive programme is to provide meaningful intervention to improve the relative competitiveness of Portsmouth businesses. Whilst there are opportunities to network through our meetings and projects, the focus is on action rather than discussion!

What the StartUp and Thrive programme does

Represent Portsmouth businesses and their needs to the City Council, the Solent LEP and to central Government.
Reach out to Portsmouth businesses with information about current grants, opportunities and regulations.
Operate business-centric projects such as Crowdfund Portsmouth and the Business Support Bank.

The StartUp and Thrive team

The programme is delivered by a team of volunteers. Typically they are:

  • owners of established/growing local businesses
  • senior employees from regional/national corporations
  • executives of the council
  • representatives of local business support agencies

The team is always looking for new volunteers, especially local business owners and senior executives who can help us deliver our projects and represent Portsmouth businesses. To have a chat with the programme lead David Patterson, email
