Community in Motion training for those working in and around the nighttime economy

Portsmouth City Council, Isle of Wight Council, Gosport, Havant and Fareham Council have been granted a joint bid for funding from Police and Crime Commissioner and the Home Office under the Safer Streets 4 fund.

The Community in Motion project is to deliver training to those working in the Night Time Economy regarding awareness and reduction of Violence Against Women and Girls and how to be a positive bystander within the community.

Those who either work in or support the night-time economy such as door supervisors, bar staff, taxi drivers, bus drivers and volunteers are in a unique position to strengthen wider intervention work to prevent sexual violence and violence against women and girls (VAWG). We know from past experiences and research that third parties or “bystanders” often witness such incidents – whether the build-up, the incident itself or the aftermath.

Free training will be delivered throughout January, February and into March 2023 for those working within the Night Time Economy. The 2-hour session is virtual and delivered via teams.

The training aims to:

  1. Develop awareness of sexual violence – What is it? What are the signs?
  2. Challenge thinking which can often stop positive interventions from bystanders.
  3. Create dialog between groups which builds reassurance and confidence to intervene, and
  4. Inspire individual leadership and responsibility to act.
