The Care Leavers programme has an aim to offer those young adults who have left the care system but have little support in the City a business mentor to help them on the road to a fulfilling career, and also to allocate a role model/mentor to those younger adults or children still in the care system to help them get ready for the world they are going to move into.
The programme is being shaped with the help of former care leavers and aiming to build ongoing relationships between the business community and the care leaver.
Our Care Leavers Programme provides support for young people after leaving care, and to prepare those still in the care system for their next steps. After months of working with key stakeholders across the city, including Portsmouth City Council, Flying Solo, Unlocking Potential and Hope McKellar PR, we are all delighted to be launching our first set of mentoring introductions, where these mentors will be matched with their care leavers from May 2021.
For our first round of mentors, Shaping approached our Partner organisations in the fields of media, electrical wholesales, local colleges and telecom companies. Our Partners are trusted and we are very confident they will make excellent mentors for the young people of our city. It will also give the programme team an opportunity to ensure we reiterate the aims and objectives of the mentor relationships we are looking to build and the importance of the “end user” experience.
