Leading youth charity Motiv8 celebrated with joy as they picked up the ‘Wild Card’ award at Clarion Futures annual ‘Power of Youth’ award ceremony on Wednesday 27th July, held at the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham. The Power of Youth Event and Award ceremony has been organised by Clarion Futures and funded by the #iwill Fund.
The event saw over 50 young people and 10 organisations come together to celebrate the skills and achievements harnessed through the Mini Community Ambassadors project (mini CAP) which is part of an initiative by Clarion Futures and Vivid Housing to support the local community in Fratton, Portsmouth. It aims to introduce young people to the importance of social action and equip them with the social and economic skills to help support and empower communities. During the last year they have taken part in social action projects and local initiatives such as beach cleans, making bird feeders and volunteering for the opening parade at the Sea Angling Classic event. This youth led project enables young people aged 8-11 to ensure their voice is heard and to look at the changes they would like to see in their community.
The day was a great success with collaboration from both housing and youth sectors to deliver workshops during the day including dance, poetry, and conflict resolution – enabling the young people to embrace new learning and discover new talents.
Karen Spurway, Senior Youth Worker at Motiv8 said ‘We were delighted to see our young people deliver some fantastic role play and then be selected to join the rapper Vital Powers on stage, thank you so much for the nomination and award, we are absolutely thrilled and very proud!’
As Motiv8 plan to relocate and expand from this autumn into a larger and dedicated youth hub in Fratton, we look forward to more partnership working with Clarion and Vivid housing groups and welcome further opportunities to collaborate with other organisations to support young people.
Motiv8 is a life-changing youth support charity; we have more than a 20-year history of being passionate about empowering young people. We work with young people aged 9-19 years old who need support with their emotional health, well-being and safety. We create quality long-term support within four communities, Gosport, Fareham, Portsmouth and Havant. We are striving to fulfil our mission to ‘support young people and their families in the community, building trusting relationships to help equip them with the skills, resilience and opportunities to thrive’
