On Thursday 9th November, our Shaping Portsmouth Education coordinator Kirsty Hill and Volunteer Programme Lead Chloe Bolton delivered an Explore Your Future Business Workshop session at Portsmouth Academy with Tony Sammut, the general manager from the Spinnaker Tower.
We had an opportunity to spend a couple of hours with 25 Portsmouth Academy students across year groups 7,8 and 9 who engaged meaningfully in the session and came prepared to ask the difficult questions, such as “What is your Salary?” 😱
Tony spent some time sharing his personal career journey into the Tourism and Hospitality industry as well as engaging the students in an interactive Quiz and business challenge where they were allocated into Spinnaker tower departments to work on a project plan which they then all pitched to their peers.
We were blown away by the creativity and positivity displayed by the students attending the session.
The aim of our Explore Your Future sessions is to increase aspirations in our young people, showing them firsthand what opportunities are available and accessible right on their doorstep. It’s also a great way to introduce a local business representative willing to share their own personal journey into an industry.
Shaping Portsmouth would like to extend thanks to all involved in this session and we look forward to sharing more of our Explore Your Future Success Stories with you all.
