On Wednesday, 30th November, our Director of Operations & Marketing, Sam McGrath, travelled to Trafalgar School in Hilsea to take part in The BIG Interview.
The aim of the event was to give every Year 10 student a taste of what it is like to apply for a job and be interviewed by an employer.
Sam was one of several local employers in attendance to conduct the mock interviews, giving students first-hand experience and help them enter the world of work.
For a lot of students, this was their first-ever interview, but while many were nervous, they performed brilliantly and received positive feedback from the employers.
For each student they interviewed, the employers were given a pack containing a completed application form and CV or application letter to review. They would then call the students from the waiting area, lead them back to their desk, and conduct the interview.
Interviewers were also given feedback forms to complete for each student, and were encouraged to give verbal feedback at the end of each interview.
Sam said, “This opportunity was an honour, working with Trafalgar School and supporting their Year 10 students by giving them real-life experience when it comes to interviews as well as offering them guidance and support in all areas of employment opportunities.
“The interviews were conducted by a collaboration of business professionals in the City. I personally worked with students looking to leave school and study to find employment in industries such as sport, catering, art & design, and electrical.”
Other local employers interviewing students at the event were Admial Lord Nelson School, ADP, Barclays Bank, HGP Architects, JB Landscapes, North End Baptist Church, Octopus Group, Portsmouth City Council, SSS Safety, and TOOB Broadband.
