Teach Portsmouth presents… is an exciting series of webinars promoting teacher recruitment and retention in Portsmouth.
Teach Portsmouth runs a series of campaigns and events in the city each year. Due to COVID-19, the team have had to approach digital alternatives to reach audiences as we are not able to hold face to face events. We are therefore hosting a series of webinars over the coming year, each with a different theme. The events are free to attend and held completely online via Zoom.
The second webinar of the series will focus on changing career to teaching and will take place on Wednesday 27 January 2021, from 4 pm to 5 pm.
Simon Barrable, principal at Portsmouth College will be hosting the webinar and asking questions during a live Q & A session.
Simon will be joined by two Portsmouth-based teachers who will share their experience of switching career into teaching.
Sean Archibald is currently training with Essential Teaching UK and is based at UTC Portsmouth. Sean worked locally as an engineer before joining UTC Portsmouth as a lab technician. He soon felt teaching was a natural progression and enrolled with Essential Teaching UK to begin teacher training at the college. He supports students in engineering as well as design and technology lessons.
Tarryn William is a newly qualified teacher who trained with The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) for school centred initial teacher training (SCITT) at Miltoncross Academy. Formerly a police community support officer (PCSO), Tarryn would often work with younger people out of schools including those in care. She enjoyed this part of the job and soon applied to train at Miltoncross Academy. Tarryn is now starting her career as a newly qualified teacher.
