Team Raring to Row skipper Kevin Watkins is a member of Tudor sailing Club and a member of Shaping Portsmouth’s Start Up & Thrive programme, and along with Gemma and Adam will be undertaking the Atlantic Challenge in December 2022 rowing 3000 miles from La Gomera to Antigua. When successful Gemma will be one of only a handful of women who have rowed the Atlantic twice and so is a really special mission.

The challenge which will be completed in Rosie (a 15 ft Bursledon gig owned by the club), and will involve 25 members of Tudor Sailing Club and the Coastal Rowing Academy from Langstone, completing a relay in crews of 4 over a 24hr period. The rowing will be followed by a BBQ and raffle which will be hosted at the club with all proceeds from food and bar sales going to the charity.

Whilst Tudor Sailing Club will be rowing Rosie around Langstone Harbour, the Raring to Row Atlantic Crew will be taking their Atlantic Boat out into the Solent. Both boats will leave the slipway at Tudor Sailing Club at 4pm on Friday 1st July returning to the slipway at 4pm on Saturday 2nd.

Kevin is quoted as saying ‘the support from Tudor Rowing Section since joining has been phenomenal and their idea to host the 24 hr row is an amazing gesture of solidarity for both our Charity and also our Challenge of the Atlantic. Part of our Team Charter is to be very much a Portsmouth Boat and reach as many people as we can and where possible inspire to do something extra-ordinary. Tudor and the Coastal Rowing Academy have both shown they are of the same mindset. Also a big thank you to Steff and David for also getting behind the Campaign a promoting us to businesses who can get involved and be part of the journey.

Anyone wishing to support this challenge can do so through the JustGiving page or come along to the BBQ at the finish on the Saturday and more details of Team Raring to Row can be found at www.raringtorow.com.
