Preparations are underway for for the Apprenticeship Bus to return in February for its 10th year on the road.
During National Apprenticeship Week this year, the bus visited 10 schools across Portsmouth, taking more than 80 apprentices from 32 organisations to network with around 1000 students, giving them an authentic, first-hand insight into the world of an apprenticeship.
The feedback from this year’s tour was overwhelmingly positive, with 84% of students saying the sessions inspired them to consider an apprenticeship, up from 79% in 2025. Feedback from school staff was also positive, commenting on the strong organisation and smooth delivery, and high quality apprentice interractions, creating an experience that was engaging and valuable for their students.
The 2026 tour also introduced a design competition, asking students to create apprentice-themed artwork to be used on the bus wrap as it toured the schools. The winning design was by Anya Velez from City of Portsmouth College, and you can still see the bus around the city on the various Stagecoach routes. The competition to design the 2027 wrap is currently underway, so look out for the new look in the new year!
For 2027 we would like to represent even more organisations across a wider range of sectors and industries, and recruitment for apprentices to join us on the bus is already open.
Simon Ingram, Programme Lead for the Apprenticeship Bus programme, said “The wheels on the Apprenticeship Bus keep turning, and every year we look for new ways to make an even bigger impact. 2026 was no exception. We introduced the student artist bus wrap competition, expanded our network model to engage even more students, and added an extra day to the programme.
“Looking ahead to 2027, we’re not slowing down. Plans are already in place to innovate further and extend the reach of the Apprenticeship Bus to even more young people. With apprenticeships and “earn while you learn” career pathways more relevant than ever, now is the perfect time for organisations to get involved. If you want to showcase your fantastic people, inspire the next generation, and highlight the opportunities available within your business, make sure you register for the bus.
“Places fill quickly, so don’t miss the opportunity to be part of the journey.”
