Bringing People Together
Led by Portsmouth City Council, Nature Positive Portsmouth brings people together to support a climate resilient city where everyone who lives in Portsmouth can enjoy nature in the city and the benefits it brings.
Nature Positive Portsmouth is a project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund through Nature Towns and Cities, a partnership between the Heritage Fund, Natural England and the National Trust.
What are we hoping to achieve?

Restoring Nature Across Portsmouth
A place where we nature can thrive and Portsmouth’s special places for nature are known, understood and celebrated by everyone in the community.

Bringing Communities Together Through Nature
A place where community’s can come together to make space for nature and in doing so create space for community, conversation and wellbeing in the city.
3.
Building a Climate Resilient Portsmouth
A place where we can work with nature to help our city become climate resilient, particularly responding to the impacts of heat and localised surface water flooding.

Building Partnerships for Nature Positive Portsmouth
Bringing organisations together to work for a Nature Positive Portsmouth through developing plans, networks, skills and capacity

Empowering Communities to Green Local Spaces
Working with communities to develop plans for greening improvements and supporting more people have access to green spaces

Creating New Funding for Nature Based Action
Developing new ways in which nature-based actions can be funded

We are passionate about clean rivers and seas. Southern Water are working with Portsmouth City Council, Portsmouth Homes, schools, businesses and other settings.
We support thriving places and know how important being climate ready is. Through Nature Positive Portsmouth we are connecting with the business community, promoting nature on business sites whether that is gardens, tree planting or sustainable urban drainage. We are also keen to explore how the business community can support local nature positive projects.
The University of Portsmouth brings research, expertise and student energy to Nature Positive Portsmouth, helping the city build evidence based, lasting environmental change.
The Woodland Trust protects and restores native woodland across the country, supporting tree planting and green spaces that let nature and people thrive in Portsmouth.
The Wildlife Trust works to restore wildlife and wild places across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, bringing local conservation knowledge to nature positive projects in the city.
Historic England helps protect the city heritage while supporting greener, nature friendly approaches to the places and spaces that make Portsmouth special.
