Come along to a free fun-filled family day out for Buckland and Stamshaw Green Festival on Thursday 25 August in Buckland Park. There will be a host of interactive activities celebrating all things green supported by Portsmouth City Council.
Inspired by connecting children with nature, the event will include activities such as bird box crafting and make your own grow bags. The activities will start at 11am and end at 4pm. The fun day is open to all and there is no need to book simply turn up and enjoy.
Trees for Cities and Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust are partnering with Portsmouth City Council to supply the activities available on the day and to promote the tree planting activities that have been taking place in Portsmouth.
Connecting with and protecting natural spaces has never been more important than it is now, with climate change dramatically impacting on the environment. So, information will be available on what people can do on an individual level to improve things like recycling and air quality as well as advice on planting trees to choose to boost the environment.
On the day, there will also be mural painting and treasure hunts, while children will be treated to a free barbeque which adults can enjoy too for a small fee.
Cllr Suzy Horton, the council’s Cabinet Member for Children, Families and Education, said “This is a fantastic opportunity for Portsmouth families to learn more about our tree planting activities, how we can protect our local wildlife, and why we need to work together to create a healthy city.
“Climate action is a key priority for the council and is part of our 2022-23 action plan. As part of the plan, we plan to expand food waste recycling to cover every home in the city, introduce plastic recycling banks and plant new trees. This will increase canopy cover in the city and help to improve air quality.”
