On International Men’s Day Shaping Portsmouth wants to do something to try and reduce the deaths from prostate cancer within our business community.
Portsmouth Business Prostate Cancer Screening
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the UK, with about 48,600 men diagnosed with it each year and 12,000 dying in the UK annually. Early detection can make a huge difference and although prostate cancer can be symptomless in its early stages, a simple PSA screening test can sometimes catch it before it progresses.
Why Get Screened?
- 1 in 8 Men in the UK will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
- That rate increases to 1 in 4 for Afro-Caribbean males.
- Early Detection Saves Lives: When caught early, prostate cancer has a high survival rate.
- Simple, Painless Testing: PSA testing involves a quick blood test and gives vital information about your health.
Who Should Get Tested?
On International Men’s Day on 19th November 2024 we want to offer Portsmouth businesses a simple PSA screening test for male employees over the age of 40 through the Graham Fulford Charitable Trust, at half its normal price (£15 instead of £30).
As we have individuals within the Shaping Portsmouth Community who have already had PSA tests with high results and been diagnosed with prostate cancer, we can also offer direct support around what needs to happen next for those who may return a high result.
Protect Your Future and Those Who Count on You
