Our Care Experienced Event triumphs!

Shaping Portsmouth's Kirsty Hill and the Care Experienced team from Portsmouth City Council

What a way to start our week with our very first Care Experienced Employer Management Event delivered in Partnership with Portsmouth City Council on Monday at The Civic Offices.

The event was a unique and exciting opportunity for businesses and organisations to explore ways in which they can support the programme and become a part of this valuable opportunity to engage Care Experience individuals and support them into meaningful employment. We were thrilled with the turnout for this important event to promote our Care Experienced young people.

Paul Deluchi, Senior Contracts Manager at Mountjoy

The event was a success, and we were lucky to bag some powerful guest speakers to share their own personal journeys of being care experienced and what barriers they may have faced when accessing or maintaining employment. They also had an opportunity to equip potential employers and supporters of the programme with some tips and advice. This sharing of learning is essential to create a clearer understanding of what the young people need while supporting businesses to become Care Experienced ready organisations.

A huge thank you to Paul Deluchi, Senior Contracts Manager from Mountjoy, for sharing their teams’ experiences and learning from when they supported Shaping Portsmouth with the pilot scheme last year. This is a significant part of the programme, exploring ways in which we at Shaping Portsmouth can upskill organisations to feel ready to support a Care Experienced young person.

We will continue to learn, develop and grow this programme to provide Care Experienced young people with the opportunities that they so deserve whether that is through work experience, training and education or paid opportunities. If your organisation is able to offer support to this programme, please do contact us at info@shapingportsmouth.co.uk for further information.
