Shaped By Solent is back!

After a successful 2022 programme Shaped By Solent returns to continue the success and embark on a new and exciting challenge. We are thrilled to work together with Little Green Academy, Mary Rose Academy, Redwood Academy, and their students, to create some exciting and innovative products in this Dragon’s Den style initiative.

The Shaped By Solent project brings together Solent Academies Trust, Shaping Portsmouth and a range of high-profile businesses to mentor and provide experience in business and public speaking to classes of SEND students.
Their task is to brainstorm, create, and present products the students could sell at the Shaping Portsmouth Conference, with profits from funds raised going to the schools to benefit their students and facilities.

Georgina Shepherd returns as programme lead, supported by Kirsty Hill as Shaping Portsmouth’s Education and community coordinator. We couldn’t deliver this programme without the support of our volunteer business mentors from Portsmouth Aviation, Lightening Safety Systems, QBuild, University of Portsmouth, and Waitrose.

Georgina said “I am excited that this incredible programme is about to start. This project gives students the opportunity to gain valuable business experience and to put their entrepreneurial skills to the test. With the mentor sessions beginning this month, I am hopeful that the project will inspire the students to think creatively and provide them with practical business skills that they can use in the future. I can’t wait to see what product ideas the students come up with this year.”

Kirsty adds “I am thrilled to be part of such an exciting and creative programme. I look forward to working closely with Georgina who contributed tirelessly to make last year’s programme such a success.

“This is a great opportunity for Shaping Portsmouth to bring together some of the best in business with our young creative SEND students. I cannot wait to see the results and share them with you all.”
