Shaping Portsmouth have welcomed two new placements to the team. Mackenzie Bird has joined us from HSDC for two weeks work experience, and Imogen Hambry has returned for another paid summer internship having completed her GCSE’s at Trafalgar School.

As well as studying A Level Law and Politics, Mackenzie is passionate about getting youth voice heard in the city and across the country. She’s the chair of Portsmouth’s Youth Cabinet, a youth adviser at Motiv8, and a youth ambassador for NHS Solent. Imogen would like to one day become a Project Manager and will be starting at City of Portsmouth College in September, studying Economics, Business Studies, and Marketing.

Imogen said “Last year I was very lucky to be given the opportunity to work at Shaping Portsmouth as a summer intern after completing my work experience. Now that I have completed my GCSE’s, Shaping Portsmouth have again allowed me to work over the summer as their Programme Assistant. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity as I know when starting college in September, I will have the real work knowledge that a lot of students in my class won’t have. I have now become Kirsty’s partner in crime working with her on the Education pillar which is something that is really close to my heart. With being a young person myself and seeing how valuable this experience has been for me gaining real-world knowledge that can’t be taught in a classroom. Working with Kirsty I can help young people find more opportunities.”

Mackenzie said “For the next 2 weeks I’m doing work experience with Shaping Portsmouth. This gives me the opportunity to learn about the wonderful things they do. During the next few weeks I’ll be shadowing those at Shaping Portsmouth, attending meetings and events all while being taught valuable lessons and skills for the future. I’m really enjoying my time with them and love finding out about all the great projects they do. Thank you for the opportunity!”
