The Urban Vocal Group (UVG) is delighted to announce its first joint programme since it joined The Guildhall Trust last month, with applications now open for its Mentorship Through Music programme for young people.
The mentorship programme, which began during lockdown, has so far provided the opportunity for 10 young people to work remotely with a host of professional musicians to develop their musical and personal skills and now, with the support of the Trust, is set to expand to provide up to 30 more mentorships in the coming year.
Mentorships take place over a 6-12week period and are tailored to the young person’s goals and can focus on a variety of outcomes such as building confidence, improving technique, writing a song, performance skills, or learning more about the music industry. The programme’s mentors are all professional musicians skilled in a range of different genres and styles with extensive experience in the music industry and working with young people.
The UVG and The Guildhall Trust are committed to providing these activities free of charge to those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to participate in music-making.
Founder of UVG, Charlie Fletcher, said “It has been wonderful to see the impact the Mentoring Through Music programme has had to date and the progress that the young people engaged have made. While sessions will initially continue remotely, we look forward to being able to work face-face with young people again just as soon as we are able to. We strongly believe that music making should be available to everyone and as such are committed to ensuring that our activities are accessible to all”.
