Vocalists, singing teachers and musicians are invited to join a one-day masterclass presented by UVG – The Urban Vocal Group and The Contemporary Voice Academy, supported by The Guildhall Trust, at Portsmouth Guildhall from 10am-4pm on Sunday 27th February 2022.
Led by industry leaders from the two organisations who have over 35 years of combined experience in training singers, musicians and vocal teachers, the day will cover a series of vocal training and development techniques, vocal health guidance and skills for delivering your own workshop.
Sally Stanton of The Contemporary Voice Academy is a vocal technique and health specialist who has extensive experience of working with singers of all ages and abilities from across the globe, from those just starting out in their singing journey, to professional recording artists, singing teachers and vocal teachers.
In her interactive workshop, Sally will help you get the best out of your own or your student’s voices by improving range, stamina, power and flexibility, identifying and overcoming common voice issues and learning how to build and maintain the voice.
Sally said “After suffering an injury early on in my singing career, I know how important it is to build the voice safely and support vocal injuries. As a professional singer, teacher or professional voice user, your voice is your career and put simply, your money maker! This masterclass will help you to build a voice that is reliable and also how to work with changing voices (young and old), transgender voices and voices going through hormonal changes”.
UVG Projects Manager, Charlie Fletcher, an experienced community musician, guitarist, percussionist and workshop leader has taught in both formal and informal education settings, delivering over 1,500 workshops to young people and adults on a range of topics from music, film and visual arts to evaluation, bid writing, events and project management.
Using tips and tricks gained over the past 15 years, Charlie’s workshop offers coaching on how to run your own fun, informative and dynamic events covering planning, tech, setting the scene, facilitation and evaluation.
Charlie said, “I am delighted to be combining my skills and experience from UVG with Sally’s at The Contemporary Voice Academy to offer a Development Day of such high quality. There is nothing quite like this currently available in the region and we look forward to supporting vocalists, singing teachers and musicians from across the South in their professions.”
