NEET
In partnership with:
Young people that are not in education, employment or training (NEET) face significant barriers that can impact their future, such as low confidence, limited access to opportunities, and financial pressures. Research shows that this number is rising across the Portsmouth area and remains higher than the national average. Extended periods as NEET have also been seen to lead to declining mental health, wellbeing, and future employability disadvantages.
For many, navigating the system and accessing the right support can feel overwhelming, with no clear path back into employment or training. We want to ensure that every young person feels supported, heard, and inspired to take their next step into education, work, or training.
With so many organisations looking to tackle this citywide problem, we have decided to collaborate with the Department for Work and Pensions on their “Aspiration NEET Zero” Project.
This project brings together stakeholders across Portsmouth including local authorities, employers, the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, education/training providers and more. By looking to align our offers, understand gaps and create clear pathways, we can increase the strength and quality of pathways into local opportunities for young people.
