Students inspired by Apprenticeship Bus Roadshow

Shaping Portsmouth Apprenticeship Bus Roadshow has been completed for another year, and what an incredible journey it has been! Over three days, we had the pleasure of meeting passionate individuals, showcasing apprenticeship opportunities, and helping shape the future of Portsmouth’s workforce.

From exploring various industries to discussing the benefits of apprenticeships, this event has truly highlighted the value of hands-on learning and the many career paths available to young talent. A big thank you to all the employers, apprentices, and students who have made this roadshow a huge success!

Over the course of the three day event, our 53 apprentices from 24 organisations met over 500 students from nine schools across the city.

The feedback from the students has once again been overwhelmingly positive, with 79% saying the session had inspired them to consider an apprenticeship. The majority of student also said they would have liked the sessions to be longer so they had more time to speak to the apprentices.

Kirsty Hill, Education Pillar Lead at Shaping Portsmouth, said “It’s been a whirlwind of excitement, inspiration, and a fair amount of running around (shoutout to all the sore feet). But despite the exhaustion, we couldn’t be more thrilled with how it all went. Our amazing apprentices helped so many people discover new opportunities, and that’s what it’s all about!”

Simon Ingram, programme co-lead and Managing Director of Mountjoy, said “A massive thank you to Chloe Bolton and Kirsty Hill the orchestrators of this programme. Without their commitment and energy this would not have been half as good. And thank you to all the Apprentices. You were absolutely brilliant.”

The Shaping Portsmouth team would also like to thank Mountjoy, Portsmouth City Council, Solent Careers Hub, Stagecoach South, MediaFleet, and all the organisations that provided apprentices for the tour for their support in making this programme possible.
