All of us at Shaping Portsmouth are incredibly sad to hear of the passing of Paul Newton, a supporter of our Digital Resilience programme. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and colleagues at this difficult time.
Our Digital Resilience programme lead, Lisa Gibbs, pays tribute to Paul, “It was an absolute pleasure to work with Paul and we learned so much from him. His methods and approach to helping people understand the serious, and often dry, topic of cyber security were effective, enjoyable and literally magical. We are very grateful to Paul for giving his time and contributing to the programme. Paul’s passion for protection was obvious in his many videos, podcasts and speaking at events. I am sure there are numerous people and businesses who have avoided becoming victims of scams and cyber crime because of his work. The team and I are extremely sorry to hear this news and we will miss Paul greatly.”
Shaping Portsmouth CEO David Humphries added, “I met Paul very early in my Shaping Portsmouth career and true to form he promptly stole my pin number! Paul delivered serious messages in a fun and entertaining way and with great expertise. As he said himself, he loved keeping people safe from nasty people. Paul will be greatly missed by us all and our thoughts are with his family and friends.”
Marian Glover the Business Programme Lead also added “Paul was one of the first people I had the pleasure of meeting when I first started at Shaping Portsmouth. His passion for making the complex world of cyber security not only understandable but genuinely enjoyable was incredible to witness. I saw him perform his signature magic trick several times, and every single time I was just as amazed – it never got old. His ability to turn serious topics into something engaging helped protect countless businesses and individuals from cyber threats. He always had a smile for everyone, and his positive energy was infectious. Paul will be truly missed.”
