Shaping Portsmouth take part in Student Voice Celebration Day 2024

Shaping Portsmouth’s Education & Community Lead, Kirsty Hill, and Ops Manger, Steff Jones, were invited to The Student Voice Celebration Day 2024 put together by our friends at Unloc, along with the Council of Portsmouth Students and The Primary Council of Portsmouth Students.

Here they joined a group of fantastic aspirational Yr10 students in a youth consolation session regarding one of our programmes. Kirsty and Steff chose to consult on the Portsmouth Ambassadors and specifically how Shaping Portsmouth can engage young people in the programme.

The students gave us lots of things to consider.

Strong suggestions to us included:

  • The type of training they would like to receive, from interactive learning to workshops.
  • Involvement in volunteering at large and small Portsmouth events, with a particular interest in the summer bandstand, Pride and Portsmouth FC matches and events.
  • Provision of (free at point of delivery) tours and activities for young ambassadors that would a gap in young people’s social life provision in the city whilst providing them with further training on what the city has to offer.

Many more suggestions and much more feedback was provided by the student team.

Kirsty Hill said “the Yr10’s from CoPS, once again showed a mature, and enthusiastic attitude to providing a voice on what matters to them in the city. They have given us some real direction to take in the planning of Youth Ambassadors that Steff and I wouldn’t have considered without their help.”
