For many of us, the working day begins before we have even left home. We check an email, respond to a message or glance at a notification, and suddenly we are already switched on.
Technology helps us run businesses, collaborate with colleagues, communicate with customers and stay connected. But when every notification feels urgent and the boundaries between work and personal time become less clear, it can also contribute to distraction, stress and fatigue.
That is why, throughout August, Shaping Portsmouth is focusing on Digital Wellbeing as part of our annual Workplace Health & Wellbeing Programme calendar.
Digital wellbeing is about using technology in a way that supports our health, productivity, safety and overall wellbeing, while reducing its potential impact on our mental, physical and social health.
This month’s activity is being delivered through our Digital Resilience Programme, with support from our Programme Support Partners, Zinq IT and Philip Gibbs Insurance Brokers.
Simplifying digital
One of the primary goals of the Digital Resilience Programme is to simplify digital for Portsmouth’s business community.
Digital resilience is not only about having the right technology, cybersecurity measures or systems in place. It is also about helping people use technology safely, confidently and sustainably.
For businesses, this matters. When people are constantly connected, interrupted or unable to properly switch off, it can affect concentration, productivity, morale and overall wellbeing.
The good news is that improving digital wellbeing does not mean giving up technology or attempting a complete digital detox. It is about becoming more intentional about how we use it and making small changes that help technology work for us, rather than the other way around.
Follow our Digital Wellbeing series
Every Monday throughout August, we will be sharing a new Digital Wellbeing post across Shaping Portsmouth’s social media channels.
Each post will provide simple, practical guidance that individuals, teams and organisations can apply in their everyday lives. Our aim is to make digital wellbeing easier to understand and more realistic to put into practice.
Whether you manage a team, run a business, or simply want to feel less digitally overwhelmed, we hope the series gives you something useful to consider and try.
Follow Shaping Portsmouth throughout August and join us in creating a healthier, safer and more balanced relationship with technology.
Because being digitally connected should not mean being constantly switched on.
