"Having been the CEO of Age Concern Hampshire for some 5 years, there have been several times when kindness has taken my breath away. Last week was one of those times. It has always been a struggle keeping this organisation afloat being both a charity and in the social care sector. […] Whilst we have building maintenance in our budget, we did not anticipate such a large issue with the roof at our Lockswood Centre, so to have Mountjoy come along to fix it as they did last week was totally amazing. This level of generosity is not something that we have experienced for a very long time, certainly not since before the pandemic and this will make a real difference, not only to the centre, but to our finances. “Portsmouth Library of Things is all about reducing waste and connecting people with the things that they need, and generally that involves people joining the library and borrowing items that they infrequently use, saving them money, space and carbon. When we heard that Rexel had some irons and lamps that needed a new home, we were really happy get involved and make sure the items were used and not left sitting on a shelf. A couple of the irons are now available to borrow through the Library, and we have one for our repairers at our hub in Cascades when they’re helping people with fabric repairs. Homestart Portsmouth are giving the rest of the irons out to families that they support, thanks to a connect with Janice Waterman at Vivid Housing, and the lamps will be helping students at Sparsholt College with their studies.”
