e come together to support the link between the charity and business sectors.
Our goal is to provide Portsmouth’s charities in need with resources and committed individuals, strengthening their missions.
Together we offer assistance in connecting them with the tools they need as well as passionate individuals who can make a difference in the community.
Objectives
- To create a database of tradespeople and professionals willing to volunteer their time and expertise.
- To match those volunteers with the needs of Portsmouth charities, allowing them to focus funds on frontline activities rather than infrastructure.
Impact
- 4 emergency requests supported.
- 4 laptops and 1 bicycle provided to community initiatives.
- Supported a collapsing charity to ensure £90,000 goes to local community organisations.
- University Masters Consultancy Project secured to support the marketing of Portsmouth Community Lottery.
- Raised over £15,000 and donated 100 devices to local schools.

“Portsmouth Library of Things is all about reducing waste and connecting people with the things that they need, and generally that involves people joining the library and borrowing items that they infrequently use, saving them money, space and carbon. When we heard that Rexel had some irons and lamps that needed a new home, we were really happy get involved and make sure the items were used and not left sitting on a shelf. A couple of the irons are now available to borrow through the Library, and we have one for our repairers at our hub in Cascades when they’re helping people with fabric repairs. Homestart Portsmouth are giving the rest of the irons out to families that they support, thanks to a connect with Janice Waterman at Vivid Housing, and the lamps will be helping students at Sparsholt College with their studies.”
